Hey Beautiful!

Here's my list of little treasures I have uncovered recently that are making me happy, healthy, and more beautiful inside and out this week. Enjoy!

1. Inside-out beauty supplements I’m loving - I put the same amount of obsessiveness, research and experimentation into my own internal beauty routine as I do my cosmetic creations for Afterglow Cosmetics and Exuberance Beauty.  I go into detail about my current beauty supplement routine on my recent blog post: 8 Great Vitamins for Glowing Skin.

2. Podcast I’m Digging - The poignant, delightful, wonderfully thoughtful and compassionate life advice podcast, ‘Dear Sugar’, hosted by Cheryl Strayed (author of Wild) and Steve Almond. Listen to it on iTunes or here.

3. Quote I’m integrating - "Think of all the beauty still left around you and be happy." - Anne Frank

4. This week’s adventure I’m cherishing -  Brunch with like-minded women business owner friends.  Years ago, in the early days .....

4 Ways to Shrink Pores Naturally

Shrink Pores Naturally

Our skin is constantly working to protect our bodies from the environment. One common result? Large, clogged pores, and a corresponding multitude of dermatological issues ranging from dull skin to breakouts. You don’t have to settle for these skincare woes. While pore size is genetically determined, minimizing the appearance of your pores is well within reach. Try these four techniques to shrink pores naturally and you'll be well on your way to more beautiful skin.

  1. Clean, Clean, Clean

Did I happen to mention “clean”? Oil, sweat, and dirt are major pore offenders. The key to making pores appear smaller? Keep them clean. Remember, keeping your skin clean doesn’t mean scrubbing it raw, washing every few hours or using harsh cleansers. However, your skin accumulates dirt, environmental toxins and other unwanted nasties throughout the day. They mingle with your natural oils and can exacerbate pore size, not to mention create other skin issues such as acne.

Hey Beautiful!

Here's my list of little treasures I have uncovered recently that are making me happy, healthy, and more beautiful inside and out this week. Enjoy!

1. Recipe I’m excited about - Phat Fudge, a delish, sugar-crave-curbing snack by The Paleo Chef, Mary Shenouda. Check out the Phat Fudge recipe here and watch Mary’s backstory interview with Able James here about how she cured her migraines with food, what she did with a misdiagnosis of cancer and lupus and how she lost 30 pounds eating more fat and going gluten-free.

2. Podcast I’m digging - I’m in the process of writing a book about natural beauty. I couldn’t imagine writing this book without including what I believe is at the core of beauty self-love and self-compassion. I ran across this amazing talk by Tara Brach about self-compassion and the awakening heart in each of us called,  “Freeing Ourselves by Loving Ourselves”. Grab a cup of tea (and maybe some tissues) and listen to it for free.....

Hey Beautiful!

Here's my list of little treasures I have uncovered recently that are making me happy, healthy, and more beautiful inside and out this week. Enjoy!

1. Woman I’m ‘following’:  Dr. Sara Gottfried, an integrative gynecologist and author of a wonderful book, "The Hormone Reset Diet”.  Perhaps it’s a bit geeky of me but, in a world of Rx slingers, seeing a well published, Harvard MD take a more balanced, nutrition-based, natural approach to health and wellness gets me super excited!  Check out Dr. Gottfried’s blog here starting with> Reset Your Hormones Naturally

2. Podcast I’m digging - James Wedmore’s “Mind Your Business Podcast” episode 18 motivated me to do some deep cleaning and reorganizing.  Balance, intention and energy flow isn’t just in your mind. It’s also in your surroundings. Even if you aren’t a business owner, this episode with Karen Cartner, former landscape architect turned feng shui expert, and bestselling au.....

8 Great Vitamins for Glowing Skin

8 Great Vitamins for Glowing Skin
One of my favorite creative parts of my life is uncovering hidden natural ingredient and supplement gems that take my health and beauty to the next level. I put the same amount of obsessiveness, research and experimentation into my own internal beauty routine as I do my cosmetic creations for
Afterglow Cosmetics and Exuberance Beauty. These are my top 8 favorite vitamins for glowing skin.

  1. Evening Primrose Oil

Evening primrose oil was a favorite of Native Americans for wound care and other natural wellness therapies. Derived from the seeds of the evening primrose plant (Oenothera biennis), evening primrose oil is loaded with omega-6 fatty acids and antioxidants.

Evening primrose oil may contribute to your glowing skin goals from the inside by positively impacting your natural hormone balance.  This means softer, firmer, more supple skin and less acne. In fact, a study in The International Journal of Cosmetic Sciences found that supplementing with 3 x 500 mg pe.....

The GFCO Certified Gluten-Free Difference

Certified Gluten-Free Written by Guest Contributor, Chris Rich, Vice President of Development for the Gluten Intolerance Group.

Quick question - as a gluten-free consumer, what is the first thing that you do when you pick up a new product at the grocery or drugstore?

The majority of you probably answered one of two things. First, you find the area showing the ingredients and/or components that make up the product. You are looking for those “hidden” ingredients: the malt, wheat flour extract, etc. When people think about you being gluten-free, they think you need to just avoid breads, but these ingredients are the tricky little things that you know can do the real damage.

The second thing that you are doing when holding that product in your hand is looking for the GF label. The “circle GF” label, also known as the certification label, is arguably the most trusted symbol in our gluten-free community.

Before I became involved with the Gluten Intolerance Group (GIG) and learned more a.....

Hey Beautiful!

Here's my list of little treasures I have uncovered recently that are making me happy, healthy, and more beautiful inside and out this week. Enjoy!

1. An article worth reading & passing onto a loved one - Anti-Aging Secrets Exposed Report - Chemical Linked to Breast Cancer in Skin Care - The Campaign for Safe Cosmetics, a Project of the Breast Cancer Fund, recently found toxic carcinogens and endocrine disruptors in the form of PTFE (also known as Teflon) in some of the largest cosmetic brands’ skin care, gel, and powders. While The Campaign’s findings are disturbing, the report is a must read. Pass it onto your loved ones and spread the word to those that may still be seduced by ‘anti-aging’ claims.

2. Video I’m digging - The Human Experiment - This documentary does an excellent job of outlining what the thousands of untested and unregulated chemicals being used in our food, homes, and personal care items are doing to our collective health. T.....

How to Choose the Right Foundation Shade

How to Choose the Right Foundation Shade

Do you have foundation shade paralysis? You’re not alone! Nailing the perfect foundation shade can be tricky, but it all comes down to determining your undertone. The goal of a foundation is to match your natural skin tone and even out the overall appearance of your skin. Using the correct foundation shade will allow your natural skin tone to shine through. Use these quick tips to determine your perfect foundation shade by first understanding your beautiful skin’s natural undertone.

What is an ‘undertone’?

Your undertone is the underlying shade of your skin.  Undertones generally fall into four groups; Warm (yellow or golden light and medium skin tones), Cool (pink or red light and medium skin tones), Olive (medium and medium deep skin tones), and Neutral (balanced light and medium skin tones).  In fact, your undertone has nothing to do with how light or dark your skin appears. It also has nothing to do with the amount of pink or redness you see on your skin du.....

Hey Beautiful!

Here's my list of little treasures I have uncovered recently that are making me happy, healthy, and more beautiful inside and out this week. Enjoy!

1. A risk that was worth taking - Last year, what started out as a “radical thought I was having” about giving my entire Afterglow team a paid, two weeks off from December 23rd to January 6th, manifested into being with our Winter Wellness Vacation.

This company move was a leap of faith. Even with our amazing and understanding customers, our ability to continue to take, process and ship orders 24/7/365 through the magic of the internet and our trusty partners… it was still a hold-yer-breath leap of faith.  I’m so glad I took it and so grateful for my team for putting the right communication in place to make it as smooth as possible for everyone!

Self-care is so much a part of our company culture, it gives me a lot of joy to be able to offer this to my amazing team. After we returned and the dust.....
