Afterglow’s ABC of Cosmetics

Afterglow's ABC of Cosmetics

Antioxidant Rich: Expect more from your makeup. It should improve your skin much like a skin care product. That’s why we infuse powerful antioxidants into each of our products, which help to nourish, balance, improve tone, and reduce the signs of aging.

Bismuth Oxychloride: A bio-cumulative metal that can be found in most mineral cosmetic products. This ingredient is known for being an irritant to the skin. (Are you wondering why people use products with this in it? So are we!)

Campaign for Safe Cosmetics: This coalition is focused on protecting the health of consumers and workers by securing the corporate, regulatory and legislative reforms necessary to eliminate dangerous chemicals from cosmetics and personal care products. Visitwww.SafeCosmetics.org for more details.

Dry: Dry lips can be a problem throughout the year. Harsh winters turn into sweltering summers so keep your lips satisfied with one of Afterglow’s moisturizing Organic Lip Soothers, Organic Hydra Glosses, or Organic Lip Love Lipsticks.

Education: Educating yourself is easy with the use of the Skin Deep database. Run by the Environmental Working Group, www.CosmeticDatabase.com is a great tool to use when researching the hazardous ratings of the products in your everyday beauty routine.

F.D.A.: The Food and Drug Administration does NOT regulate the cosmetic industry so it is up to you to monitor what you put on and ultimately in your body. (Did you know your skin absorbs 60% of what you apply to it?)

Garden: Rosemary, lavender, aloe, and roses can be planted in your garden and their extracts can also be found in Afterglow’s bio-active makeup.

Healthy Glow: A healthy glow can be created year round with the right bronzer. Avoid a fake orange appearance by applying our Organic Glow Bronzer.

Ingredients: Our USDA certified ingredients are what distinguish us among the myriad of other cosmetic lines on the market. For a full list of our proprietary ingredients visitwww.AfterglowCosmetics.com/ingredients

Jump!: Making the jump to a green, organic, and natural lifestyle seems daunting but it doesn’t have to be. Start by switching one staple product with something that’s natural and organic. Doesn’t that seem doable?

Kind to Animals: Afterglow Cosmetics has never tested on animals and sources ingredients from suppliers who also have policies prohibiting animal testing.

Lipstick: The average woman ingests an average of four pounds of lipstick, lip balm and gloss over a lifetime. Yuck!

Mascara: is the most toxic cosmetic product. Many mascaras may even contain mercury, which is listed on the ingredient label as “thimerosal.”

Nano Particles: Cosmetic companies are now manufacturing products with particle sizes so small they can penetrate the layers of your skin and settle into the fatty tissues of your body. Ewwww!

Organic: A botanical categorized as organic is grown without the use of chemically formulated fertilizers, growth stimulants, antibiotics, or pesticides. Afterglow uses USDA Certified Organic Botanicals whenever possible.

Patch Test: For women with sensitive skin it’s very important to patch test cosmetics to avoid skin issues. Apply a new product to a small portion of your forearm before applying it to a larger portion of your skin.

Quench: Keep skin looking young by using a daily moisturizer and drinking lots of water. Your skin loves hydration!

Rosacea: A chronic condition resulting in the redness of facial skin cells, which can make finding soothing facial products difficult. Thankfully, Afterglow’s ingredients are soft and soothing for rosacea suffers.

Sensitive Skin: If you’re skin can be finicky try to avoid ingredients like bismuth oxychloride, talc, dyes and mineral oil. Also see P and learn about Patch Testing!

Ten: Ten represents the number of ingredients the FDA has banned from use in personal care products in the US. This number is miniscule compared to the approximated 1,100 ingredients the EU has banned from personal care products.

UV Coverage: We all know UV rays are harmful to your precious skin. Using makeup with SPF protection each day will help prevent skin damage. Good news, our Organic Mineral Foundation has an SPF of 20.

Vivacious: Vivacious colors are more difficult to make when you are working with natural ingredients. Many companies resort to harsh synthetic dyes for powerful colors. Thankfully Afterglow is able to create beautiful shades using natural iron oxides.

Women Empowered: Afterglow Cosmetics is woman owned and operated. Our goal is to advocate for the health of women, while keeping in mind our products must be as effective as they are safe.

X toxic ingredients: (X is a hard letter) Eliminate toxins from your beauty routine by reading a product’s ingredient labels the next time you’re doing a little shopping.

Yummy: Afterglow’s ingredients are certified organic by the USDA, which uses a food-grade standard. In short, you can safely chow down on Afterglow products if you feel so inclined. However, we think they look better on your face than in your tummy, so we’d avoid snacking on your lipstick if you can help it.

Zits: can easily be covered with Afterglow’s Organic Aloe Concealers. While this product hides your problem areas it is also treats with the healing powers of aloe and bentonite (a natural clay).
